One of the greatest weaknesses in most group consensus and
action plan processes is that after the initial agreement
and surge of enthusiasm, other challenges and distractions
creep in and the momentum is lost or new challenges arise
which the group does not know how to address. To address this
challenge, after a co-laboratory, local coordinators ensure
that the agreed upon action plans are implemented and that
this actually results in reaching the targets set by the group.
For three years, each project has a local follow-through coordinator
who coaches everyone on meeting the project's targets, reports
regularly on its progress, and manages operating necessities.
Each coordinator receives both initial training and tools
to carry out this function, as well as ongoing support from
the Institute.
At the Global Agoras Institute level, we provide a master
follow-through coordinator who:
- Trains and supports local coordinators;
- Communicates regularly with them;
- Summarizes local reports and produces quarterly Institute
progress reports;
- Leverages local learning by sharing it with co-laboratories
worldwide;
- Assists in production of action research and popular articles.
Follow-up coordination is crucial to both the success of
the action plans and our ability to document their success.
With this coordination, we ensure consistent follow-through,
creating the successes that kindle enthusiasm, and assuring
people that their initial work with the SDS process is supported.
With systematic reports, we create benchmarks for gauging
the success of various projects, and more importantly, learning
from each one so that we can share those insights and learning
with future groups using the SDS process so as to enhance
their experience and increase their results.
We will publish action research articles and popular accounts
of our successes so that practitioners of SDS and other group
processes may benefit on an ongoing basis. We will publish
so as to alert those organizations, communities or governments
who would benefit from this process of its impact and availability.
We will provide reports of results of these projects to those
who provide financial support, so they will know exactly what
is being accomplished with their money.
